GIPA and the EU Mayors for Economic Growth signed a Memorandum of Cooperation

16 November 2018

The Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA) and Secretariat of the EU Initiative ‘Mayors for Economic Growth’ (M4EG) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on November 16, 2018.

The EU initiative ‘Mayors for Economic Growth’ has been in operation since January 2017 in the six Eastern Partnership countries. Its goal is to support mayors in becoming active facilitators for economic growth and job creation. The Initiative is managed by the M4EG Secretariat with headquarters in Tbilisi. The Secretariat has country coordinators in five EaP countries.

Cooperation between GIPA and a major EU regional Initiative is the first case in Georgia, providing students with an opportunity to get acquainted with the EU standards in local governance, strategic planning, and local economic growth, as well as receive hands-on experience in practical application of the new knowledge. Possible joint activities under the MoC can include specialized training for students, both online and in a classroom, potential internship programmes with selected local municipalities, assisting them in preparation of the Local Economic Development Plans and providing research support, etc..

The Memorandum of Cooperation was signed by Rector of GIPA Maka Ioseliani and M4EG Team Leader Peter R. Korsby.
