EU Contributes to Business Support Infrastructure Development in Cimislia, Moldova

25 July, 2018 – A public launching event of the Pioneer Project “South Open Gate of Moldova for Businesses and Investments Promotion” was held in Cimislia. The project is funded by the EU under the Mayor for Economic Growth (M4EG) Initiative and implemented by Cimislia District Council in partnership with the Organization for Small and Medium Enterprises Development of Moldova (ODIMM) and the South Regional Development Agency (RDA).


Representatives of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Moldova, national and local authorities, local business and business service providers attended the event and shared ideas of joint actions for the project implementation.
 

Head of Operations Section of the EU Delegation to Moldova Mr. Aneil Singh welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance and achieved success of the long-term partnership between the EU and the Republic of Moldova. “The Project is a good example of cooperation between Moldovan local authorities and the private sector to facilitate sustainable economic growth and job creation in the region”, stated Mr. Singh.
 

The main goal of the Project is to promote local economic development by enhancing competitiveness of the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the region and attracting foreign investment to the local economy. The project covers Cimislia and 7 other districts of the South Development Region (SDR) of Moldova: Basarabeasca, Cahul, Cantemir, Căușeni, Ștefan Vodă, Leova and Taraclia.
 

“This Project will help to create new jobs and ensure local economic development in the South Region of Moldova”, mentioned Mr. Iovu Bivol, the president of the Cimislia District Council.
 
The main project’ actions include: enhancing the capacity of local entrepreneurs and business service providers to support business development in the region, creation of the first regional network of business consultancy organizations, establishing the investment profile for all 8 districts together with the investment portal and the electronic catalogue to identify opportunities for investments in the SDR of Moldova.
 

“We will continue to support the SME sector through other EU-funded projects and initiatives in the region”, stated Mr. Petru Gurgurov, the acting director general of one of the Project’ partners – ODIMM.

 
The launching event culminated with Mr. Aneil Singh handing over the membership certificates to new signatories from the South region: Selemet village and Taraclia city.
 

The M4EG pioneer project “South Open Gate of Moldova for Businesses and Investments Promotion” is one of three projects to be implemented in Moldova by Signatories to the Mayors for Economic Growth Initiative. Total budget for the initiative is around 336 thousand Euro, out of which the EU will contribute around 303 thousand Euro. The duration of the project is 18 months.
